  • 0:00 | hi Mark this is Mark’s Tech Vlogs on
  • 0:01 | YouTube and today I’m going to bring you
  • 0:03 | guys a review of the ARA d24 dash
  • 0:07 | [Music]
  • 0:11 | cam now to start of this video I want to
  • 0:13 | tell you that artha very kindly reached
  • 0:15 | out to me and sent me this to review
  • 0:17 | which means I haven’t paid for it but as
  • 0:18 | with everyone who reaches out to me I
  • 0:20 | always say I will make an honest review
  • 0:23 | and so this video is get my honest
  • 0:24 | thoughts on using this product I’m also
  • 0:26 | going to try and show you as much video
  • 0:28 | as I can throughout this video of this
  • 0:30 | in action and let’s kick off and talk
  • 0:32 | about price and what you get in the box
  • 0:34 | so this dash cam retails at about
  • 0:36 | ยฃ149 which certainly makes it more
  • 0:38 | expensive than a lot of ones you’ll see
  • 0:40 | on Amazon if you do a typical search
  • 0:42 | however having used this now I think
  • 0:44 | that’s reflected in the quality of this
  • 0:45 | and what you get with it so in the Box
  • 0:48 | you get the front camera you get the
  • 0:49 | rear camera you get a 9volt USB plug a
  • 0:53 | long USBC to usba a cable for giving it
  • 0:55 | power you get some cable clips you get
  • 0:58 | some spare sticky pads for the mounts
  • 1:00 | you get a tool for tucking in your
  • 1:01 | cables you get instructions and you get
  • 1:04 | a 64 MB micro SD card that means you get
  • 1:07 | absolutely everything you need to get
  • 1:09 | started in the box so let’s talk about
  • 1:11 | the design so the front camera looks
  • 1:14 | similar to a lot of dash cams out there
  • 1:16 | on the front you’ve got the camera and
  • 1:18 | the lens on the back you’ve got a screen
  • 1:20 | and then on the sides and top you’ve got
  • 1:22 | spaces to plug in that rear camera and
  • 1:24 | the power and a slot for a memory card
  • 1:26 | there’s also a physical button on the
  • 1:28 | right hand side of it all in all I like
  • 1:30 | the design of the camera and the rounded
  • 1:32 | edges all kind of match and are
  • 1:33 | consistent throughout the rear camera
  • 1:35 | also has a nice compact design and is
  • 1:37 | very rounded and quite different from
  • 1:39 | other cameras I’ve seen it attaches
  • 1:41 | quite nicely to your rear wind screen
  • 1:43 | using a sticky pad and then you can
  • 1:44 | twist the camera around to adjust it to
  • 1:46 | the right angle so let’s talk about
  • 1:47 | specification so the front camera can
  • 1:49 | shoot in 4k with 150ยฐ wide angle the
  • 1:54 | rear camera is quite impressive for a
  • 1:55 | rear camera and shoots at 2K again with
  • 1:58 | 150ยฐ wide angle both also support night
  • 2:01 | vision this means both have plenty of
  • 2:03 | range and also really good quality that
  • 2:05 | front camera can also record audio as
  • 2:07 | with most dash cams but you can turn
  • 2:09 | this off if you don’t want it one of the
  • 2:10 | things that really sets this camera
  • 2:12 | apart is it has Wi-Fi built-in for
  • 2:13 | transfer and video and what really sets
  • 2:15 | this apart is that this is Wi-Fi 6 this
  • 2:18 | helps with transfer speeds over your
  • 2:19 | standard 2.4 GHz Network all this
  • 2:22 | interaction is done by the AFA app that
  • 2:25 | screen on the front camera is a
  • 2:26 | touchcreen as well and it’s pretty
  • 2:28 | responsive you can also switch that
  • 2:30 | screen off if you just press the button
  • 2:31 | on the side of course if you don’t when
  • 2:33 | it’s recording what you get is a live
  • 2:34 | view of your front and rear camera as
  • 2:36 | with all dash cams it has built-in crash
  • 2:38 | detection which means if it does detect
  • 2:40 | some kind of impact it will save that
  • 2:42 | video and lock it and as we all dash
  • 2:44 | cams I’ve reviewed this isn’t something
  • 2:45 | I have thankfully tested it also has GPS
  • 2:48 | built-in this is great for the location
  • 2:49 | being attached to the video but also for
  • 2:51 | knowing the speed you’re going and that
  • 2:53 | appears in the bottom of the video and
  • 2:54 | of course as with all dash cams it
  • 2:56 | records in Loops by default it records 1
  • 2:59 | minute but you can check change that to
  • 3:00 | three or five if you want to and what
  • 3:02 | happens is when it fills up a memory
  • 3:03 | card it will automatically delete the
  • 3:05 | oldest video and then the camera also
  • 3:07 | has the option to control it with your
  • 3:08 | voice this means you can do things like
  • 3:10 | asking it to start and stop recording
  • 3:12 | video and then finally it also has a
  • 3:14 | parking mode buil in which isn’t
  • 3:15 | something I’ve tested because in order
  • 3:17 | to test this you need to hard wire the
  • 3:18 | dash camera in this is done with an
  • 3:20 | external wiring kit and as I’ve said
  • 3:23 | with other dash cams this is probably
  • 3:24 | something you’re going to want a
  • 3:25 | professional to install for you but
  • 3:27 | actually when we’re talking about spec
  • 3:28 | for this camera I think with all of
  • 3:30 | features built in and the camera
  • 3:31 | qualities it packs a lot in for the
  • 3:33 | money so let’s talk about fitting it and
  • 3:35 | as I said everything you need to get
  • 3:37 | this camera instored and fitted in your
  • 3:38 | car is included in the box that includes
  • 3:41 | some spare sticky pads which is great if
  • 3:42 | you need to change your wind screen or
  • 3:43 | you change car and in my opinion the
  • 3:45 | best way of doing this is to attach both
  • 3:47 | cameras to your wind screens to start
  • 3:48 | with from there you’re going to want to
  • 3:49 | take the long cable of a rear camera and
  • 3:50 | put it to the front of your car just
  • 3:52 | Loosely dangling over the seats you’re
  • 3:54 | then going to also want to do the same
  • 3:55 | with the front cable and then what I
  • 3:57 | recommend doing is working from the
  • 3:58 | front so tuck both of those cables up
  • 4:01 | and around your windscreen and then
  • 4:02 | you’re going to get to kind of the side
  • 4:03 | door where they’re going to split off
  • 4:04 | one’s going to go for back one’s going
  • 4:06 | to go down and then I’ve also found in
  • 4:07 | most cars what you tend to have is more
  • 4:09 | space to tuck away excess rear cable at
  • 4:11 | the back and so working from front back
  • 4:13 | means you got all the excess cable at
  • 4:15 | the rear and you can just tuck that out
  • 4:16 | the way and there is a lot of excess
  • 4:18 | rear cabl so if you drive a big car even
  • 4:20 | in aate I think you’ll be perfectly fine
  • 4:22 | with this all in all it took me about 10
  • 4:24 | minutes to get all this done um maybe
  • 4:26 | it’ll take you a bit longer if you
  • 4:27 | haven’t done it before but it’s not a
  • 4:29 | particularly difficult job and having
  • 4:30 | that little tool to tuck away the cables
  • 4:31 | is great the final thing you can want to
  • 4:33 | do is download the AF app and connect to
  • 4:35 | the camera most importantly you can want
  • 4:37 | to format that memory card of course you
  • 4:39 | can also do this VI the settings on the
  • 4:40 | camera screen one of the things I
  • 4:42 | couldn’t work out during setup was how
  • 4:43 | to actually set the time by that touch
  • 4:45 | screen but if you download the app and
  • 4:46 | connect to the camera it automatically
  • 4:48 | syncs the time the app also lets you
  • 4:50 | access a variety of settings this
  • 4:51 | includes changing the crash detection
  • 4:53 | sensitivity and changing those Loop
  • 4:55 | times of course all of those things can
  • 4:57 | also be done on that touch screen and
  • 4:58 | the whole setup process and the app was
  • 5:00 | really good from my point of view so
  • 5:02 | let’s talk about using it and as with
  • 5:03 | most dash cams for the most part once
  • 5:05 | you’ve got it installed and set up and
  • 5:06 | plugged in you don’t have to do anything
  • 5:08 | with it you just turn on your ignition
  • 5:10 | the camera starts up and it starts
  • 5:11 | recording when you finish your journey
  • 5:13 | you turn off ignition and the camera
  • 5:14 | stops recording and this camera Works in
  • 5:16 | exactly that way and that built-in
  • 5:17 | screen shows you previews of what’s in
  • 5:19 | front of you on the camera and also
  • 5:20 | what’s behind you and as I said if you
  • 5:22 | do find those screens distracting you
  • 5:23 | can turn it off and as you can see from
  • 5:25 | the footage I’ve been showing you
  • 5:26 | throughout this video whether it’s day
  • 5:27 | or night the quality of this camera is
  • 5:29 | really good everything is nice and clear
  • 5:32 | and you can see both front and rear
  • 5:33 | capture exactly what you’d need if you
  • 5:35 | ever needed the footage or if you just
  • 5:37 | wanted to show people in your review for
  • 5:38 | a camera that the highways maintenance
  • 5:40 | van run a red light and as you’d expect
  • 5:42 | the quality of the rear camera isn’t
  • 5:44 | quite as good as the front camera
  • 5:45 | because we’re talking 4K versus 2K but
  • 5:47 | it’s still really good quality in both
  • 5:49 | day and night settings and in practice
  • 5:51 | if you needed this video for an incident
  • 5:52 | it would capture exactly what you needed
  • 5:54 | front and rear and this leads nice talk
  • 5:56 | about how you do get video off the
  • 5:57 | camera because you got a couple of ways
  • 5:58 | you can do it you can take that memory
  • 6:00 | card and plug it into a computer however
  • 6:03 | thanks to the Wi-Fi 6 actually doing it
  • 6:04 | via the app is nice and easy and also
  • 6:06 | relatively quick to do that when the
  • 6:08 | camera’s on you’re going to want to go
  • 6:09 | into your Wi-Fi and connect to it you’re
  • 6:11 | then going to want to open the Afra app
  • 6:13 | from there you can connect into the
  • 6:15 | camera you’re going to stop recording
  • 6:16 | and you’re going to go and browse the
  • 6:17 | video clips and select the ones you want
  • 6:19 | to save once you’ve done that you’ll see
  • 6:21 | an indicator on the screen showing you
  • 6:22 | the progress of each clip as it
  • 6:23 | downloads and actually having used other
  • 6:25 | Wi-Fi dash cameras before the Wi-Fi 6
  • 6:27 | does make this notice be quicker of
  • 6:29 | course if you’re downloading a lot of
  • 6:31 | Clips it’s going to be easier to plug it
  • 6:32 | into your computer however just for a
  • 6:34 | few the app is perfectly fine and pretty
  • 6:36 | quick one thing I have found on a couple
  • 6:38 | occasions is a Wi-Fi can drop off this
  • 6:40 | hasn’t actually been when downloading
  • 6:41 | Clips but it’s been when accessing the
  • 6:42 | settings initially all I’ve done in that
  • 6:44 | situation is I’ve just turn the Wi-Fi
  • 6:46 | off on the camera and turn it back on
  • 6:47 | again and this has resolved it and I’ve
  • 6:49 | been connecting to this camera a lot to
  • 6:50 | try and put it through its paces and
  • 6:52 | download as much video as I can and show
  • 6:53 | you guys some clips and some interesting
  • 6:55 | clips of driving and actually it’s only
  • 6:57 | done this a couple of times so I don’t
  • 6:58 | think it’s an issue I think it might
  • 6:59 | just be something to my phone and a
  • 7:01 | Wi-Fi but it’s something that I’m always
  • 7:02 | honest in my reviews so I wanted to
  • 7:04 | mention it then the other thing I want
  • 7:05 | to mention is that voice control mode
  • 7:06 | which means in theory you can use your
  • 7:08 | voice to ask it to stop recording or
  • 7:09 | start recording now despite this being
  • 7:11 | on in the settings for the dash cam this
  • 7:13 | isn’t something I’ve been able to get to
  • 7:14 | work at all and to be honest I don’t
  • 7:16 | think this is a useful feature because I
  • 7:18 | think most of the time with dash cams
  • 7:19 | you actually just want them to record
  • 7:20 | when you’re driving and stop recording
  • 7:22 | when you’re not driving and so actually
  • 7:24 | you probably never can use this feature
  • 7:25 | anyway but I wanted to try out and see
  • 7:27 | if it worked and it wasn’t something I
  • 7:29 | could get to work that might just be
  • 7:30 | something to bear in mind if it is a
  • 7:32 | feature you’re looking at all in all
  • 7:33 | however what’s the verdict on this dash
  • 7:35 | cam from AFA and whilst the price point
  • 7:37 | is a bit higher than other dash cams out
  • 7:39 | there I actually think for money is
  • 7:40 | quite good value this is especially true
  • 7:42 | if you put it alongside bigger Brands
  • 7:44 | who don’t even offer 4K and still
  • 7:46 | charged like another ยฃ50 on top and for
  • 7:48 | the quality of the footage from front
  • 7:49 | and rear cameras I think this camera is
  • 7:51 | worth it and actually a really good
  • 7:52 | product it also feels like a product
  • 7:54 | that afro ever really thought about that
  • 7:55 | touchscreen is really responsive adding
  • 7:57 | Wi-Fi 6 you get faster video trans is a
  • 7:59 | great idea and not something I’ve seen
  • 8:01 | done on other cameras before either and
  • 8:03 | this creates a really useful way of
  • 8:04 | transferring video via the app rather
  • 8:06 | than a really slow way and when that 150
  • 8:09 | price point also includes a memory card
  • 8:10 | and basically everything you need to get
  • 8:12 | started I don’t think it’s bad value as
  • 8:14 | a package the only thing you need to
  • 8:16 | know is that if you do want to hardwire
  • 8:17 | in you’re going to have to buy an extra
  • 8:18 | cable all in all however this is a great
  • 8:21 | product and if you’re looking at one I
  • 8:22 | don’t think you’d be disappointed if you
  • 8:24 | got any questions about this do stick it
  • 8:25 | below I’ve also got a link below where
  • 8:27 | you can pick one up if you use that link
  • 8:28 | that is an affiliate link and it will go
  • 8:29 | to this product in whichever country
  • 8:31 | you’re in on Amazon if you use that link
  • 8:32 | and make a purchase thank you very much
  • 8:34 | because that does just help this channel
  • 8:35 | out if you’ve enjoyed this video give it
